As Part of the Fifth Phase of the Relief Umbrella Program

Date: 13/04/2025

Ramallah – Bank of Jordan has signed a cooperation agreement with the Palestinian Ministry of Education (MoE) to provide tablet devices, aiming to ensure the completion of high school exams (Tawjihi) for students in Gaza Strip. This agreement is part of the fifth phase of the Bank’s Relief Umbrella Program, launched in response to the humanitarian crisis and the destruction of infrastructure in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing war. The program is carried out in cooperation with international, UN-affiliated, and local organizations, as well as charitable associations.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry’s headquarters in Ramallah by Mr. Saif Issa, CEO of Bank of Jordan – Palestine Branches, and H.E. Prof. Dr. Amjad Barham, Minister of Education and Higher Education, in the presence of representatives from both the Bank and the Ministry.

The agreement seeks to support students' access to remote learning, thereby contributing to the continuity of education amid the current challenges and dire conditions in Gaza. As part of the initiative, 220 tablets will be provided to the Ministry, with the aim of enabling over 30,000 students in the Gaza Strip to sit for their high school exams (Tawjihi)—after the war had previously deprived them of this opportunity.

Commenting on the signing of this important agreement, Mr. Saif Issa stated:
"At Bank of Jordan, we are committed to our social responsibility and our role in supporting education in Palestine. Through the provision of these tablets, we aim to contribute to supporting students in the Gaza Strip and enabling them to access education despite the current challenges."

He added: "This initiative falls within the Bank’s broader strategy to support education and improve the opportunities available to Palestinian students." He also expressed his pride in collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to achieve this shared goal.

For his part, H.E. Prof. Dr. Amjad Barham emphasized that the signing of this agreement with Bank of Jordan is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure access to education for all, despite the significant challenges being faced. He noted that providing tablet devices to students in Gaza is a key step toward enabling their participation in the educational process.

Dr. Barham also highlighted the Ministry’s continuous and dedicated efforts to expand educational access across all areas and to create opportunities for students. He underscored the importance of fostering partnerships that reflect a strong commitment to social responsibility in support of education.

It is worth noting that this agreement represents an important step in supporting the education sector in Gaza and in promoting distance learning opportunities aligned with the educational priorities of the targeted areas.

This agreement is a continuation of a series of humanitarian and development interventions carried out by Bank of Jordan in cooperation with its partners under the Relief Umbrella Program. These efforts have included support for cancer patients—particularly children—the provision and distribution of food packages in northern Gaza, sponsorship of orphans and children without family support, and support for the recovery and sustainability of bakeries in the Gaza Strip.
