Bank of Jordan has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mariam Anti-Cancer Foundation to provide urgent medicines for cancer patients in the Gaza strip. The signing ceremony took place at the head office of Mariam Foundation in Ramallah in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Jordan branches in Palestine Mr. Saif Issa and the representatives of Mariam Foundation Board of Directors in Palestine Dr. Waleed Nammur, the CEO of the Foundation Mr. Mohamad Hamed, management representatives from both sides, the foundation’s ambassadors and personalities from the local community and the media.

Issa clarified that this support falls within the framework of the multiple relief umbrella to support the humanitarian situation in the Gaza strip launched by Bank of Jordan to help citizens in the current difficult humanitarian situation in the strip. This memorandum constitutes the first among the relief work themes within the program. It caters for the relief of cancer patients especially the children among them by providing the medicines they missed for months.

Issa hailed the efforts of Mariam Foundation to help, support and provide the life-saving medicines to cancer patients in the Gaza strip in view of their urgent need to resume treatment at the earliest opportunity.

In turn, Dr. Nammour hailed the strategic partnership with Bank of Jordan to provide the urgent medicines to cancer patients in the strip, while stressing the importance of such medicines to support the patients’ response to treatment and to alleviate their sufferings.

In turn, Mr. Hamed valued the generous support from Bank of Jordan and pointed out that this memorandum carries double importance at a time the suffering of the patients reached its climax in view of the lack of medicines for a long time. He stressed that Mariam Foundation devoted its efforts to coordinate with the partner hospitals and the local and foreign medical establishments to provide patient’s needs of medicines. The foundation follows-up closely the development of the situation of cancer patients in the strip and operates at all levels to provide moral and material support to them. This initiative aims to support the campaign of Mariam Foundation to provide medical support to cancer patients in the Gaza strip.

It is noteworthy that Mariam Foundation is considered the official representative of Palestinian cancer patients wherever they reside and has been operating for years to fight cancer and help patients throughout their treatment journey by providing psychological, moral and material support to them, while Bank of Jordan is considered among the first financial institutions in Palestine after 1994. It contributed to provide its distinguished banking services in the Palestinian territories that targeted a large segment of Palestinian sectors and contributed to support and develop the local economy. Moreover, through its social responsibility, it conveyed a noble message to support and empower society and provide the effective support to various relief, humanitarian and sustainable development projects.
