Ramallah – Bank of Jordan has announced the renewal of its membership with Taawon (Welfare Association) through a generous contribution to support the Association’s various programs. This step reflects the Bank’s strong commitment to corporate social responsibility and its dedication to contributing to development across multiple sectors within Palestinian society.
Since 2015, Bank of Jordan has worked to strengthen its partnership with Taawon, recognizing the Association’s vital role and the impact of its interventions on the Palestinian people in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, the territories occupied in 1948, and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Mr. Saif Issa, CEO of Bank of Jordan – Palestine Branches, affirmed that the renewal of the Bank’s membership in Taawon is a continuation of the support and partnership built over the past years. This has included the Bank’s sponsorship of Taawon’s annual calendar, the proceeds of which are allocated to projects that empower women and youth.
He emphasized that the Bank maintains continuous engagement with all segments of Palestinian society and is always keen to support initiatives that benefit the community and contribute to sustainable development. He praised Taawon’s role in strengthening Palestinian resilience by empowering women and youth, preserving heritage and identity, and supporting culture through its programs in education, culture, community development, and the restoration of historic towns, as well as its vital humanitarian and relief efforts in the Gaza Strip.
For his part, Dr. Tareq Mtayreh, Director General of Taawon, expressed his appreciation for the decade-long partnership with Bank of Jordan, commending the Bank’s outstanding support of the Association’s various development programs.
He stressed the importance of private sector support for Taawon, noting that the renewal of the Bank of Jordan’s membership represents a key part of the Bank’s annual contribution. This unrestricted support is especially valuable, as it allows the Association the flexibility to plan and implement innovative and impactful programs across different sectors, benefitting Palestinians wherever they reside.
It is worth noting that Bank of Jordan was among the first financial institutions to establish a presence in Palestine after 1994. The Bank has since provided high-quality banking services, supported a wide range of sectors, and contributed to the development of the local economy. Through its commitment to social responsibility, the Bank has played a meaningful role in empowering communities and supporting various humanitarian, relief, and sustainable development initiatives.
Taawon, meanwhile, is a leading independent, non-profit organization established in Geneva in 1983 by a group of prominent Palestinian and Arab economic and intellectual figures. It has grown to become one of the largest organizations operating in Palestine and the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, directly impacting the lives of over one million Palestinians annually—half of whom are women. Since its founding, Taawon has invested nearly USD 900 million in development and relief programs across its areas of operation.
