Ramallah, January 22, 2025 – Bank of Jordan signed an agreement with Think Palestine Foundation, under the auspices of the Palestinian Ministry of Education, to support education in the Gaza Strip. This initiative is part of the bank’s Relief Umbrella Program, launched in response to the humanitarian catastrophe and infrastructure destruction in Gaza due to the war, in cooperation with international organizations, UN agencies, and charitable associations.
Saif Issa, CEO of Bank of Jordan branches in Palestine, stated that this support is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts in cooperation with its partners—the Ministry of Education and Think Palestine Foundation. These efforts follow a structured plan and a comprehensive approach, considering education one of the fundamental pillars of sustainable development in the region, especially under the current circumstances.
He added, “Even after the war ends, returning to the pre-war state of education will not be possible for some time. Therefore, to provide an appropriate learning environment for children who have been deprived of education for 470 days, the Bank of Jordan has adopted a project to support the implementation of five structured educational programs, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Think Palestine Foundation.”
For his part, Rami Ghnaim, Chairman of the Board of Think Palestine Foundation, stated that the five programs target 500 children aged 5 to 9 (from kindergarten to third grade) and 25 teachers. Each educational program spans 3 months (12 weeks) and aims to cover the learning gap in core subjects such as Arabic, English, and Mathematics. Children who complete the program will receive certification from the Ministry of Education, qualifying them to move to the next grade upon the resumption of regular schooling.
Ghnaim praised the partnership with Bank of Jordan and the Ministry of Education in implementing these programs, which target the education sector in Gaza—a sector that has suffered extensive damage to schools, universities, and educational centers. He expressed hope that this initiative will help children and students catch up on missed learning and prepare them to return to their classrooms as soon as the educational process resumes.
Bank of Jordan places great importance on corporate social responsibility programs, aiming to support and empower the Palestinian community, and actively contribute to various humanitarian, relief, and sustainable development projects.
In response to the emergency situation in Gaza, Bank of Jordan launched a comprehensive Relief Umbrella Program to support the sector. The program targets several key areas to assist citizens, based on an in-depth study conducted by the bank and several strategic partners, including international organizations and local institutions. The study identified priorities and the most urgent basic needs, particularly for underserved and highly vulnerable groups. These include support for cancer patients—especially children—by providing necessary medications, offering essential health and women’s hygiene supplies, infant formula for newborns, food assistance for displaced persons, and free bread distribution to meet the needs of approximately half a million displaced people for one month. It also includes support for the recovery and sustainability of bakeries, among other initiatives.
It is worth noting that Bank of Jordan is one of the first financial institutions to establish a presence in Palestine after 1994. The bank offers advanced and distinguished banking services, targets a wide range of Palestinian sectors, and contributes to supporting and developing the local economy.
Think Palestine Foundation consists of a group of professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to launch initiatives and projects that serve the Palestinian people.
